Carow • Architects Plus, founded as Brenner • Danforth • Rockwell, is celebrating its 48th year as a firm; Jay Carow has been a partner or sole principal for the past thirty years. CAP specializes in architectural, planning and interior design services for prestige clients of all types including historic buildings. Mr. Carow also serves as an expert witness for legal cases.
Mr. Carow holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Illinois Institute of Technology where he studied under Mies van der Rohe. His internship was as a project design associate with C.F. Murphy Associates. His first position as principal was as a founding partner of Environment Seven Architects, a firm dedicated to providing services to Chicago’s inner city communities for housing,schools and public buildings.
He has 14 years of architectural teaching experience: as a professor in IIT’s College of Architecture, as the founding Dean of the first degree granting programs in architecture, planning, and building technology for Malaysia, and as visiting Fulbright professor at the University of Baghdad, Iraq.
Specific examples of Carow’s planning and design work are:
• Roosevelt University: 10 years as university architect consulting on master planning, renovation by phases, historic restoration, and design of the new Marvin Moss Student Center for the Auditorium Building Campus.
• Libraries: more than fifty projects for public, academic, specialty, and private libraries.
• Competition winning designs for projects in Wisconsin and Indiana.• Historic Restoration/Adaptive Reuse Projects: In addition to the national landmark Auditorium Building, multiple projects including landmark office buildings in the Loop and workers’ housing in East Chicago and Beloit, Carnegie libraries ; Columbus Park’s Refectory; and the Adlai Stevenson II Home and Stable in Libertyville.
