What is your primary product or service?
All things creative: graphic design, web & interactive development, print & packaging design, writing services, art & photography, sound & music, animation, consulting. It's soup-to-nuts over here.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
The day Doug, the Interactive Principal here at 5 after 9, showed me I could draw a circle on a Mac Plus simply by clicking and dragging. It was 1987. Do you know how long it takes to code a description for a circle in Fortran?? Once the computer was helping me be creative, I was hooked. - Arlene, Creative Principal
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are known for our premium solutions in design, using both emerging technologies and traditional marketing avenues. We like change so you don't have to. We're there to make it make sense. No one should be lost or left behind.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One studio. Expansion? I'd love a bigger studio, but we plan on staying as a single location.

As an agency we work by contract or project. Payment is by check only.
Which areas do you service?
We are based in Chicagoland but our clients are anywhere they can access online. They tend to be US-based, concentrated in Illinois, NY-NJ, and California. Of course we have some lovely folks in Europe, and one distributor who works across four continents. Coordinating timezones can be fun!
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
5 after 9 is a woman-owned business, a partnership between Arlene Hedgecock and Doug Reitz. Arlene runs daily ops, industry research & development, and creative direction. Doug heads up interactive programming, and emerging technologies research.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday - Friday 9:05am - 5:09pm [Central]
