OUR MISSION:
The mission of WINGS is to provide a continuum of integrated services in an effort to end domestic violence and homelessness one family at a time.
WINGS is a 501(c)(3) publicly supported organization.

At WINGS we believe that everyone has the potential and strength to overcome difficult life circumstances and to accomplish goals that will lead to an enhanced quality of life. WINGS is committed to treating each woman and child in a respectful and compassionate manner while valuing the unique qualities and needs of each family.

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
WINGS was started in 1985 as a grassroots organization by members of a local church with the desire to help homeless women and children in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, an area with few resources for these families. A local minister did something he had never done before – he offered a ride to a hitchhiker – and in the course of conversation discovered that there was no shelter for the homeless in the area. He and a handful of parishioners started a program called HASP, Housing and Shelter Program, and set out to help by interviewing individuals about their living situations. Over the progression of the first years of the organization, the leaders of HASP learned that female-headed families were a rapidly increasing segment of the homeless population in the Chicago suburbs and that the number one cause of their plight was domestic violence. The organization changed its name to WINGS and enhanced its mission to specifically include its commitment to survivors of domestic violence.
